Kinesio Taping

Kinesio Tape successfully treats a wide range of sports injuries, orthopaedic, neuromuscular, neurological and medical conditions.

Developed by Dr Kenzo Kase, the Kinesio Taping Method seems to have taken the rehabilitation and sports medicine world by storm. With over 25 years of research and development, the Kinesio Taping Method is a breakthrough in therapeutic rehabilitative taping.

Widely used for many sports, Kinesio Taping has established a worldwide reputation as the most trusted name in elastic therapeutic taping.

Kinesio Taping’s key differential is its ability to be used for the treatment of muscular disorders and lymphedema reduction. Examples include achilles tendonitis, hamstring injuries, haematoma and bruising, shin splints, tennis elbow and lower back pain.

Kinesio Taping enables practitioners to augment treatment of lymphedema and chronic swelling by opening up lymphatic pathways. Kinesio Taping is a must-have skill for committed musculoskeletal and lymphatic practitioners.

Kinesio Taping works with 4 main functions:

  • Pain– Reduces pain by taking pressure off the pain receptors.
  • Lymphatic– Eliminates lymphatic fluid/haematomas beneath the skin.
  • Joint– Adjusts mis-alignment to aid fascia and muscle function.
  • Muscle– Reconditions abnormal tension and strengthens the muscle.

Kinesio Taping involves taping over and around muscles in order to assist, give support and to prevent over-contraction. This technique is fundamentally different from traditional athletic taping. It allows the practitioner to support muscles whilst maintaining full range of motion. In addition, it reduces muscle fatigue, inflammation and pain, corrects posture, adjusts joint mis-alignment and protects against further injury.

Kinesio Taping is also very effective for the treatment of lymphedema and chronic swelling. The tape lifts the skin, increasing the space between the fascia and the muscles. This promotes the flow of lymphatic fluid, thereby helping to reduce oedema and associated swelling.
