FAQ’S

What is Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is a treatment used to help with the pain relief, healing and rehabilitation of most medical and surgical conditions. It is appropriate for a range of muscle, joint and nerve conditions whether resulting from injury, illness or disability. Physiotherapists use a range of physical, hands-on techniques. In addition to manual treatment they will also advise you on changes to lifestyle and ways you can reduce further muscle and joint problems with exercise programs and methods to cope with chronic conditions. If they consider it appropriate, physiotherapists may recommend you are seen by other specialists, for example specialist surgeons or medical practitioners.

How effective is physiotherapy?

In most cases, Physiotherapy is considered extremely effective for appropriate conditions. Clinical research suggests that physiotherapy significantly improves the rehabilitation and recovery of these conditions, as well as being instrumental in the prevention of further injury. The amount of treatment that is required will vary from person to person.

Will it hurt?

Some treatment can be uncomfortable but at no stage should you be unable to tolerate the level of discomfort. Your physiotherapist will give you clear guidelines on what to expect during and after treatment and what is a normal reaction. If you have any concerns then you should speak to your physiotherapist immediately.

Can I bring someone with me?

You are more than welcome to have someone chaperone you during your treatment. In some cases, a chaperone is compulsory, such as for children or someone with special needs.

Do I need a Doctor’s referral?

What does Physiotherapy treat?

Physiotherapy can be used to help manage a wide variety of health conditions that affect many of the body’s systems. Most often these conditions relate to problems with bones, nerves, joints and soft tissues. A few examples of these are painful backs, necks and joints, sports injuries, injury resulting from accidents or rehabilitation after surgery or strokes.

Are you registered with major health insurers?

We are registered with most Health Insurance Companies. However, please check your policy details before commencement of treatment to confirm. In addition, we will help you fill out any Insurance Forms which may be required for reimbursement.

Will Physiotherapy help?

This can only be answered after a detailed assessment by the Physiotherapist. In most cases we can help, however if we do not think we can help, we will inform you and if necessary refer you to the appropriate health care professional.

Can I park at BPRC?

Yes, we have free off-road parking at BPRC.

I have had treatment before and it has not worked. Why are you different?

We specialise in long standing (chronic) problems that remain resistant to treatment and have highly qualified specialist knowledge to administer a movement based approach to understand why you continue to have problems.

Is there a Cancellation Fee?

If you fail to attend or cancel on the day of your appointment, BPRC reserve the right to charge for the missed appointment on your next visit. Our Client’s mainly come to see us because they are in pain. Another person’s missed appointment time could mean prolonged pain for somebody else.

What should I wear?

It is important for us to see the affected areas to accurately diagnose and treat your injury. If you have a low back or lower body injury you should wear shorts or loose-fitting gym shorts/pants. If you have an upper body injury, a vest top/sports bra or loose-fitting t-shirt should be worn.

How many visits will I need?

This is highly variable. You may need one visit or you may need months of care. It depends on your diagnosis, the severity of your impairments, your past medical history, etc. You will be re-evaluated and updated on your progress on a regular basis.
